Luckett announces formation of Progress for Mississippi
June 11, 2009 - Clarksdale, Miss. – Bill Luckett, an attorney and
businessman, announced the formation of Progress for Mississippi today.
Progress for Mississippi is a political action committee with a mission
of studying policy issues that will impact the state’s future. Ensuring
a higher living standard for Mississippi’s citizens and surpassing
neighboring states’ rankings in categories such as education, business
growth, and health care are among the broad policy objectives being researched.
“By establishing this committee we intend to explore all options
available to secure the election of a Democratic governor in the State
of Mississippi. With the current leadership being barred by term limits,
we feel that a strong Democratic contender holding proper views on these
topics will help us take back the governor’s office,” says
Luckett. “More importantly, though, our efforts transcend any sort
of Party lines and will be aimed at helping all Mississippians during
these challenging times.
“We intend to examine important issues from a fresh perspective
in an effort to move Mississippi forward without pre-conceived notions.
We want to make certain our state is in concert with relevant emerging
national policy and that we are sharing in a new atmosphere of transparency
in government.”
Progress for Mississippi is based in Clarksdale but has volunteer board
members drawn from across the state. Luckett said the newly formed organization
is soliciting input from the public at large and likely will hold town
hall meetings and gather data from a diverse cross-section in focus group
settings. The organization has a vision of a more progressive, equitable
Mississippi.
